Top Cheese
- The Top Cheese courses are the top tier and best in the state. People will travel to Wisconsin just to play these courses. Some of these may host PGA Tour events or attract national golf publications. Their main feature may be the location, architecture, playability, or all the above. Many people are lucky enough to play one or a couple of these courses once in their life. These also carry a much higher price tag than courses in the other categories but are well worth it.
Regional Destination
- The Regional Destination courses are great courses that are well designed and some of the best in the state. What differentiates these from the top cheese, is that people from other states may not know about them. Regardless of where you are from in the state, you will want to make the drive to check these courses out. These courses have welcoming staff and go over the top to ensure you enjoy your experience. They also may host state events and other competitive events.
Local Destination
- The Local Destination courses are some of the better courses within an hour of where you live. These may not host state events or have recognition, but they feature scenery, elevation changes, or defining architecture. These courses are better than others below because they are better kept and generally have more amenities. Given the lower price tag, these courses have many more rounds played on average than any of the courses below.
Local Value
- The Local Value courses are your ordinary close-to-home courses. These are ones that you head out for a twilight round or play league at weekly. You may have grown up on these courses, played for 10+ years, or even just appreciate the accessibility of them. They may not feature much architecture, or anything special about them, but they are fun to play with buddies. These also have a value to them and a lower price tag, compared to the destination courses.
Bottom Cheese
- The Bottom Cheese courses are the lower tier local courses. These are courses that beginners and people just looking for a round head out to play. There is not much unique about these courses, and they are not in great condition. If you are looking for a place to hit a ball around, these are it. It is probably best to have a couple beers on these courses, because it may not reward good shots.
